Fixing copied content: 84 to 908 clicks a month on a German price site
Google crawled the site but refused to index it. The cause was copied text, and the rewrite took clicks from 84 to 908 a month.

Clicks, 1 to 28 September vs 1 to 28 October 2026

Average position
The starting point
A German-language site listing a coffee chain’s menu and prices, launched in September 2026 on a new domain.
Search Console reported the homepage as “Crawled, currently not indexed”: Google had visited it and chosen not to index it, even though robots rules and meta tags were correct.
What we did
- Compared the page text with competing sites and found that 26 section headings and a 30-question FAQ had been copied word for word from a competitor.
- Rewrote all 26 headings and replaced the FAQ with 24 new questions taken from real “People also ask” results and a keyword sheet.
- Rewrote the homepage introduction and tripled the length of three thin sub-pages.
- Rewrote all ten meta descriptions to lead with real prices, after checking which descriptions Google shows unchanged in German results.
The numbers
| Period | Dates | Clicks | Impressions | Average position |

| First full month | 1 to 28 September 2026 | 84 | 10.5K | 8.8 |
| Latest month | 1 to 28 October 2026 | 908 | 41.9K | 7.4 |

Search Console
How to read the chart.
The chart at the top of this page is a screenshot of the Search Console Performance report, cropped so the domain does not show. Nothing else is edited.
- Blue line: clicks from Google search each day.
- Purple line: impressions, the number of times the site appeared in results.
- Average position: where the site appeared on average, across every search it showed for. Lower is better. The number can get bigger while traffic grows, because the site starts appearing for more, and harder, searches.
What the numbers do not prove
Our own site, so the work is all ours. The homepage was indexed within hours of the rewrite going live, without a manual indexing request, which points to the copied text as the blocker. Demand depends on interest in one brand’s prices.
What we would do differently
Check every template and script for copied text before launch. The copied headings were inside the script that builds the menu, not in the page copy, so a normal proofread missed them.
